TASK 1

Reason behind it : The sentence here is trying to tell us that even though the bear is unlikely to be fast by its physical appearance, bears  are generally good sprinters. Here we use an adjective and prepositions that is followed by a gerund (in which the verbs are complements)

but his ability to maintain a positive attitude and continue working an
inspiration.

Reason behind it : working an is the incorrect phrase, if the sentence is trying to say that Mr. Wilson is an inspiration for others (because of his disability), then it is supposed to be "to be an inspiration", or else if the sentence is trying to say that Mr. Wilson is still inspired despite his disability, then it is supposed to be "working with an inspiration".

4. The huge increase in popularity of specialty coffees contribution to the

Reason behind it : contribution is the incorrect word, the correct answer should have been a phrase "has contributed" because the contribution was done in the past.

Reason behind it : conclude is the incorrect word, because "had" explains that it was done on the past and it the word "conclude" should have been "concluded" to make it a past perfect sentence.

Reason behind it : paying is the incorrect word, it should have been "pay" because the sentence was "must still" and the whole idea was to tell what the recipient is going to go through (not what the recipient is doing now).

legal battle with tobacco companies in order to obtain relief for the huge
medical costs caused by smoking.

Reason behind it : fight is the incorrect word, because of the accusing side that are still doing it and has not resolved it yet (hence : protracted), it should have been "fighting".

Reason behind it : The subjects had been resolved before (hence : recently), therefore it is a past perfect tense.

Reason behind it : tomorrow a meeting is incorrect, the correct order is to put "a meeting" as a complementary of place for the verb "call", then add another complementary of time "tomorrow"

Reason behind it : the subject of the sentence had already collect results, therefore instead of an optional word (like "should") the phrase "to order" is correct.

Reason behind it : "Knowing how to repair and install computer networks" this is what we call a Noun group, to which it is of a skill that the subject (singular) has

TASK 3

Directions: Correct the sentence. Explain your reason of choosing the correct answer.

3. The disagreement is between we.

Reason behind it : "The disagreement is between us" is the correct sentence, because the difference between we and us is that we is a subject pronoun, and us is an object pronoun.

4. She is known for herself contributions to art.

Reason behind it : "She is known for her contributions to art" is the correct sentence, "herself" is used as the object of a verb or preposition to refer to her previously mentioned as the subject of the clause. In this case the correct form of word is "her" because its a possessive adjective.

5. After a difficult ordeal, her and Robert felt great relief.

Reason behind it : "After a difficult ordeal, she and Robert felt great relief" is the correct sentence, "her" as described before is a possessive adjective form, in this case we use "she" for a subject pronoun.
